The international collaboration leads Vaisala and the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) to Mars on board of NASA's Mars Perseverance Rover. Vaisala's sensor technology combined with FMI's measuring instruments is used to obtain accurate and reliable pressure and humidity data from the surface of the red planet.
In the extreme conditions of the Martian atmosphere, NASA can get accurate readings for pressure and humidity using Vaisala's HUMICAP and BAROCAP sensors. The long-term stability and accuracy of the sensors as well as their ability to tolerate dust, chemicals and harsh environmental conditions make them suitable for very demanding measurement requirements, including in space, which technology is also used in industrial and environmental applications such as e.g. Weather stations, radiosondes, greenhouses and data centers is used.
Hopefully metrology will offer tools to find answers to the most pressing challenges of our time such as climate change.
